Stroudwater Food Pantry Status – 8/12/18

Hi Team – It was a very busy weekend this past Sunday at your Stroudwater Food Pantry!  57 families were served, providing groceries to a total of 147 people.  5 new families joined the pantry this week.

Our supermarket rescue food pickups totaled 2,409 lbs. of food.   Volunteers this week included Anne, Cat, Debbie S, Jean, Karlene, Laura, Lois, Michael C, Mike Halkiu, Phil, Rena, Steve, and myself.

This past Sunday, August 12th, marked the 3rd anniversary of your Stroudwater Food Panty.  Three years ago we opened our doors and started our first pantry day serving 4 families;

  • Today we have more than 500 families in active enrollment.
  • During its three years of operation, SFP has distributed 142 tons of food to those who are meal insecure. This is an estimated equivalent of 709,650 meals.
  • SFP has forged strategic alliances with a variety of outside enterprises, including the Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine Medical Center, Spectrum Communications, My Place Teen Center in Westbrook, and the Cheverus Catholic High School.

Most importantly, the Stroudwater Food Pantry exists today because it is a ministry of Stroudwater Christian Church; it is run by a corps of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, and by the people who donate food and donate money to buy food.  The success of this ministry during the past three years is due to you, the people who have supported the Stroudwater Food Pantry, and the fight to reduce hunger in Maine.   Thank you, and God Bless you all !!   —  Doug
