Stroudwater Food Pantry Status – 8/26/18

Hi Team – We had an exciting weekend at your Stroudwater Food Pantry!  It began on Friday when we picked up and processed just over a ton of fresh food rescue, largely eggs, meat and dairy, from our three supermarkets.  Sunday proved to be one of our busiest so far this year as we served 59 families, providing groceries to a total of 181 people.  8 new families joined the pantry this week.

The topper though was what happened just minutes before we opened our pantry doors on Sunday to the line of people waiting outside; a nearby electrical transformer blew up and the entire Stroudwater neighborhood, including our church, lost all electrical power.  It left pantry volunteers in the dark and working by flashlight, but we opened the pantry and served a huge portion of groceries to a very large and appreciative crowd of clients!  After about 75 minutes the lights came back on and we finished the day under power.

Volunteers this week included Angie, Anne, Pastor Bill, Cat, Debbie S, Jean, Karlene, Lois, Michael C, Nicki, Phil, Rena, Steve, and myself.  This week’s volunteers clearly went above and beyond in overcoming obstacles to serve a community in need.  Thank you team!  —  Doug
