Stroudwater Food Pantry Status – 11/22/20

Hi Team – The week ending Sunday the 22nd proved to be a very busy week for your Stroudwater Food Pantry, as we served 89 families and provided groceries to a total of 194 people.   45 families received groceries through our Last Mile home delivery program.  7 new families joined the pantry this week.

Our supermarket food rescue pickups and food donations totaled 2,494 lbs.  Volunteers for this week included Adam, Amara, Amy, Angie, Chad, Dave, Deirdra, Dennis, Jake, Jean, Kelly, Laura, Michelle, Steve D, Tristan, and myself.

And then there was…. Thanksgiving!

On Friday the 20th we picked up 68 Thanksgiving dinners, consisting of frozen turkeys with all the side dishes, from our sponsor, the SHAWS at the Westgate Shopping center in Portland.  We returned to the church, opened the doors of the cargo van and gave nearly all of them away.  Then, on Tuesday the 24th we picked up 50 Thanksgiving dinner boxes from our other Thanksgiving sponsor, Cheverus High School; we again distributed them at the church, right from inside the van.  Additionally, we delivered many of the dinners to families who did not have transportation to the church.  In total we gave away 108 Thanksgiving dinners to families who otherwise would not have had one.  At this time we are targeting to use the remaining dinners for a special event in December.

November is always our busiest month of the year, and this November was no exception.  Your Stroudwater Food Pantry served groceries and Thanksgiving dinners to 590 families this month!  Thank You to all the volunteers who made this happen, and who helped to make Thanksgiving special for families here in Cumberland county! — Doug
