Stroudwater Food Pantry Status – 12/22/19

Hi Team – Merry Christmas!  December continued to be a whirlwind of activity in the lead up to Christmas, as your Stroudwater Food Pantry served 61 families this past Sunday, providing groceries to 159 people.  7 new families joined the pantry this week.  Our supermarket food rescue pickups, food donations and purchases totaled 4,261 lbs.  Volunteers included Adam, Amy G, Anne, Cat, Debbie, Donna W, Jean, Karlene, Leila G, Lois, Michelle, Nick, Phil, Sandra, Steve and myself.

We had a busy Friday planned for this week, and as it turned out, it exceeded all expectations.  We had our usual Friday pickups from three supermarkets.  Then, we collected, sorted and put away 1,704 lbs. of food from the five food drives hosted by our corporate partners at Spectrum Administration, the Spectrum Call Center, Pine State HVAC, Pine Tree Waste Removal, and Berry-Dunn Management & Accounting. On top of that, we fired up our assembly line and built 276 Roadside Assistance food bags for homeless people standing in the street.

All of this required a lot of volunteers.  This week our large Friday crew of church regulars was joined by a team of seven volunteers from the Idexx corporation.  Together they unloaded, processed and put away more than two tons of food, and built more Roadside Assistance food bags than we ever have in a single run.  Two days later it was our Sunday team’s turn to serve groceries to clients on our busiest distribution day so far this month.

Thank you everyone who volunteered this week!  I hope this Christmas finds you well; God Bless you, and Merry Christmas!  — Doug
