Stroudwater Food Pantry Status – 11/24/19

Hi Team – Thanksgiving week is the busiest week of the year for your Stroudwater Food Pantry, and this week was no exception.  For starters, we served 65 families, providing groceries to a total of 194 people.  17 new families joined the pantry this week.

Our supermarket food rescue pickups, food donations and purchases totaled 3,712 lbs.  Grocery volunteers included, Anne, Cat, Debbie, Iman & Mariam, Jean, Karlene, Laura, Lois, Michelle, Phil, Rena, Steve and myself.

And then… there was Thanksgiving!

Our goal was to provide 200 Thanksgiving dinners to families who would otherwise not have one.  Beginning Friday through Wednesday volunteers distributed dinners to clients who came to the church, and delivered dinners to families who could not come to the church.  Additionally, we provided dinners (in some cases just the turkeys) to institutions like the My Place Teen Center, River View housing in Westbrook, Milestone Recovery Center (men’s shelter), and the Youth and Family Outreach organization in Portland.  In the end, volunteers distributed 208 Thanksgiving dinner boxes and frozen turkeys!

It took an army of volunteers to pull all this together; thank you Angie, Anna, Anne, Damaris, Debbie, Dot, Jean, Karlene, Laura, Lois, Michelle, Misty, Rena, and Steve. It also took a lot of turkeys; thank you to our church family who provided 54 of the turkeys that went into dinner boxes!  Thank you everyone who helped ensure that families in need got Thanksgiving dinners!
